New Theme Park Prices

Hi Everyone,
Yet again more changes to the Theme Park prices, there are so many packages now it is really difficult to choose the best deal that suits your family requirements.
In readiness for the opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Universal Orlando have announced a new ticket pricing structure called “U Select”. It is similar to the Disney “Magic Your Way” ticket system where you buy a base ticket for a number of days with the option to park hop if you wish. Presumably this is to encourage visitors to stay longer than just one or two days during their vacation. Just like Disney they want you in THEIR Parks to spend your money to make up for the smaller crowds.
You can buy either a one, two, three, four or seven day pass to Universal Studios and Universal’s Islands of Adventure theme parks (excluding separately ticketed events such as Halloween, Thanks Giving, Christmas Shows). If you wish to visit both parks on the same day, then you can upgrade to the park-to-park access option.
Though the adult one day ticket remains the same price at $79 plus tax, the two day ticket is considerably more expensive than it used to be. By buying three or more days then the “day rate” drops. Tickets are valid for up to 14 consecutive days from the date of first use but there is not a optional “no expiry” charge like the Disney tickets. If you are still not confused to which is the best for YOU there is more!!!
The joint Universal and SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment tickets known as Orlando Flex tickets have also gone up in price by $25.
We think everyone needs to get as much information that is going to help them get the best deal and save them some money. Most home owners will do their best to help but it will still come down the the guests prefered choice.
With all of this going on, we still feel the Fun, Entertainment, Shows and the Magic is still worthwhile.
Happy Holidays

Margaritaville at Universal Studio’s Florida
Posted on November 13th, 2009 No commentsWritten by: Maggie Hill
Authors WebsiteEvery year we go to Florida we always go to Universal Studio’s and more often than not we will wander into the Margaritaville store and look around the T shirts, hats, signs etc but we have never ventured into the restaurant, that was until this year.
We arrived at Universal one summers afternoon just as the storm clouds opened, knowing that it wouldn’t be long before they moved off we parked the car and decided to make our way along the walkways from the car park. Well lets say that the storm didn’t move off as quickly as we hoped so we were stuck there for a little while as it was raining that hard it wasn’t worth getting wet for, but true to style the rain relented and we made our way toward Islands of Adventure.
However before we made it Margaritaville called us over, as it was still a little wet we went in and decided to have a margarita. We had promised ourselves that we would try one this year.
It was early in the afternoon, no plans of driving until that evening so we thought why not? Having never tried a margarita before it was going to be an experience.
We were pleasantly surprised by the great welcome we got from the bartender who said it was fine for our boys to sit at the bar, it was quiet but we are used to “no children” at the bar attitude that it made a lovely change, to sit there and chat to a “local” so we sat down and perused the menu. Gosh what a choice? I can’t remember which 3 margaritas we chose but they were all very different and had great names. Next came “sugar or salt”? Sorry? Around the glass would you like “Sugar or Salt”? My sister and husband chose salt but I chose sugar and I think I made the right chose but that comes down to the individual’s choice. WOW, that first sip nearly took my head off, I wasn’t expecting it to be that strong, thank goodness we were going to have a lazy afternoon at the park. For some reason my sister decided against the Hulk that afternoon, (me I never go on it) I wonder why??
What was nice was that the boys could eat at the bar whilst we took it easy with the drinks, play on a bar game like skittles and we could all relax. My 13 year old has asked to return next year for a meal, so perhaps we will have to try another margarita?

Candlelight Processional - Holidays Around The World
Posted on November 7th, 2009 No commentsWritten by: Mary Phillips
Authors WebsiteWith Christmas coming upon us fast and so many things to cram into your visit to Florida at this time of the year, this is one special feature that is worth adding to your list.
During the holiday period at Epcot, from November 27th - December 30th. the Park is transformed into an International Celebration of Christmas traditions from throughtout the World. It is highlighted by the Candlelight Procession with the live entertainment and decorations a sight to not to be missed.
Candlelight processional is held on Selected Nights at The American Gardens Theatre, telling Christmas stories narrated by Celebrity Speakers, accompanied by a 50 piece orchestra and a Full Mass Choir. Whoopi Goldberg is one of the narrators this year. It is very popular, as you can imagine and fills up very quickly, so you need to get there early. You can pre book with a meal package which guarantees your seat at the show and the fireworks. (We didn’t and took our chance by getting there early).
It is a great way to get into the Christmas spirit and to see and share the magic feelings with people from all over the world but most importantly, your own family. It is truely an amazing atmosphere which we will share again when our next visit takes in Christmas.
Add this to you “Must Do” list, not forgetting The Osborne Lights.
Have a great Christmas at Disney

Seaworld Orlando
Posted on November 5th, 2009 No commentsWritten by: Julie Hart
Authors WebsiteWe have visted all the big theme parks in Orlando, more than once but I think Sea World is our favourite. I have lost count of the number of times we have been over the years and every time we take anyone new to Florida with us, it’s always on the itinerary!
I first visited Sea World in California in 1984 so things have changed a bit since then. One of the highlights for me and probably lots of other people is the Clyde & Seymour show, I know every single corny joke but it’s always good fun and the mime showing people in is hilarious. If you’ve ever been caught you know to get in early next time!
Of course the main attraction is the Shamu show which is just fantastic, I love the fact that there is a conservation programme going on as well and it’s wonderful to see these intelligent, lovable animals and the obvious understanding with them and their trainers.
The dolphin show has changed quite a bit recently, now including tropical birds and performers as well as the dolphins. It’s great entertainment for everyone. There are areas where you can just observe the animals aswell, in a habitat which has been created to be as close the their native home as possible. You can watch the seals and feed them at certain times, they are very noisy and fun to watch, at the dolphin pool you might be lucky and have them come close enough for you to touch, more often they duck away at the last minute.
You can see penguins, polar bears, manattees, sting rays, sharks and a host of creatures you might never otherwise get to see, let alone interact with. The shark experience is very good, walking through a glass tunnel with sharks swimming overhead and all around. In every area there is a conservation and educational theme so you can learn more about the animals you see.
I also like the fact that they have a ‘Help the Heroes’ programme and show their support for servicemen and women everywhere, they show a tribute during the Shamu show which is quite moving.
The park is owned by a brewery and the Shire horses are beautIful, the tack and all the other equipment is beautifully maintained and at times you can see them tacking up the horses and taking out the drey.

Magic Kingdom – A Beginners Guide
Posted on October 14th, 2009 No commentsWritten by: Gill Barker
Authors WebsiteThere are four lands in Magic Kingdom – Tomorrowland, Frontierland, Adventureland and Fantasyland.
All the parks have seasonal opening hours so it’s a good idea to check on the website before you go –www.waltdisneyworld.com. Most people buy their Disney tickets before they leave home but you can also buy them at the entrance to all the parks or from places such as Wal-Mart where there’s a dedicated attraction ticket shop inside the store.
Drive into Disney and follow signs to the Magic Kingdom
You’ll need $14 for the car park and make a note of where you’ve parked! It’s very easy to lose your car!
Take the monorail or the boat into Magic Kingdom (both only go there so you can’t get lost and often the characters are on there)
There’s a bag search at the entrance, then you’re in!
Remember to collect a map with show time guide as this changes daily.
Everyone usually walks up to the castle and turns left so if it’s really busy and you want to avoid all the queues turn right instead.
As with all the Disney parks the most popular rides use a “fast pass” system. You go to the ride put your park entrance ticket into the machine and it will give you a time to go on the ride (this is usually on a sign above the machines). This means you go straight to the front of the queue and can save a lot of time. Whilst you’re waiting for the allotted time you will probably have time to go on other rides, have something to eat or do a bit of shopping. There’s usually a separate entrance to the ride for people with fast passes so be sure to get in the right line. Sometimes there’s a time on the fastpass that tells you when you can get another fast pass for another ride so if you know where you want to go next you can plan ahead.
Must Sees at Magic Kingdom (lots of other rides too!)

Good News For 2010 & Onwards
Posted on October 2nd, 2009 No commentsWritten by: Mary Phillips
Authors WebsiteHi,
More & more good news keeps coming for us Villa Owners and Holiday makers alike.
With Universal Studios confirming the first Phase of Harry Potter’s Theme Park opening in Spring 2010, both Disney and Busch Gardens have followed with announcements of their latest offerings in the pipeline. Neither dare be left behind but they have welcomed Universal’s lead as they know it will continue to bring in the visitors until their own Parks are up dated.
Disney’s Night’s of Joy will be moving back from Hollywood Studios to The Magic Kingdom in 2010 where they originally started.
The Princess Area to be created is now being cleared at Magic Kingdom. It is their biggest change which will allow guests to Interact with some of Disney’s most famous Princesses including Cinderella, Aurora and Belle.
The existing Dumbo Flying Elephant ride will be doubled in size (not before time, with those long queues) and be included in a Circus Big Top Interactive queing area to entertain all of us during our wait. There will also be a new Pixie Hollow Greeting Area to meet all of the Disney Fairies. The 1st. Phase including The Mermaid ride and the Princess Area will open in 2012 and Pixie Hollow by 2013.
Busch Gardens are also getting in on the act and will be bringing The Sesame Street Safari to life on the Land of Dragons site. The Sesame Street-themed play area will feature Elmo, Big Bird and many other popular Sesame Street characters.
The only downside, sadly is the closure, again, of Cypress Gardens which unfortunately falls way behind the other Parks pulling Power.
Hope the new owners of Seaworld also respond to all of the proposed changes, it can only good for us all.
Regards,

Epcot Center with Toddlers
Posted on September 29th, 2009 No commentsWritten by: Patty Bensur
Authors WebsitePersonally, I believe that Epcot Centre is designed for adults and older children who will most definitely have a greater appreciation for what this park has to offer. However, since Epcot is our favorite park, we visited many times over the years beginning when our children were very young. Each visit provided a new and different experience for them as they grew.
The first time we took our two older children to Epcot, they were both under five. Get there early when the park opens and since World Showcase opens later than Future World, you’ll start there! The first thing you’ll see on entering the park is Spaceship Earth (it resembles a giant golf ball)! This is a very slow moving pleasant attraction that is fine for toddlers. If your child is afraid of the dark, though, it may be best to avoid this one.
The Universe of Energy pavilion has one of our favorite attractions at Epcot, “Ellen’s Energy Adventure”. Your children may enjoy this, or they may be very frightened of the life-like dinosaurs that move and roar. Use your judgment on this one!
Not to be missed in Future World with pre-schoolers are The Living Seas pavilion and The Land Pavilion. They will particularly love “The Seas with Nemo and Friends” as well as “Living with the Land”. My children particularly enjoyed this and wanted to go back on the boat ride again and again! They were quite enthralled with the trip through the Disney greenhouses where they saw unique new-age growing methods in practice plus a number of unusual fruits and vegetables.
Before leaving Future World, you’ll want to take in one more attraction, “Journey into Imagination with Figment” at the Imagination! Pavilion. My kids really enjoyed this ride led by a very lovable purple dragon named Figment. Let me warn you, though, that you won’t be able to get that song out of your head!
This is a good time to go back to the villa for a nap! You can return late afternoon or early evening to take in the World Showcase. When you return, depending on the age of your children, stop in to one of the gift shops and consider purchasing a Passport for them. This will keep them busy as you tour the country pavilions. You can read more about this item here:
http://www.silvercreekvillas.com/blog/archives/77
Before you enter the World Showcase, check out the times for the various live performances. There will be a variety of acts outside the different pavilions and some of these may appeal to your children. So, plan on taking a few of these in as you stroll through the countries. Most of the main attractions in this area of the park will not be suitable for young children. The Maelstrom seems tame enough but there is a fast drop and a frightening troll that really disturbed my children so I don’t recommend it! There are beautiful films in China, France and Canada but the short attention span of your young children will more than likely only allow you to attend one of these. If that’s the case, we found “Reflections of China” to be a great choice. The one main attraction that will be suitable and most enjoyable for little ones will be “El Rio Del Tempo” in the Mexico pavilion. This is a very pleasant and beautiful boat ride through a very colorful and festive world!
If you managed to get a nap break in at some point during the day, you’ll want to stay and see “Illuminations: Reflections of Earth”! All of Epcot comes to “light” with this most spectacular grand finale laser light show. Your children will be in awe – so will you!!

Universal Studios Revisited
Posted on August 31st, 2009 No commentsWritten by: Patty Bensur
Authors WebsiteMany years ago, before we started our family, my husband and I enjoyed a visit to Universal Studios. We had a great day enjoying attractions such as Back to the Future, King Kong and Jaws. Though we have been to the Orlando area several times since then, we had never returned to Universal Studios because we were waiting for the kids to get a bit older. On our most recent trip, we decided to take the family and revisit this park and I have to say that apart from a few remaining memorable attractions including Jaws, E.T. and The Blues Brothers performance (one of my favorites – I got to dance with Jake!), it was an entirely new experience!
My first surprise came upon entering the park as we passed by all the enticing establishments of City Walk with the huge roller coasters of Islands of Adventure looming ahead. That was only the beginning!
As we experienced our day at Universal Studios, we found that a few of the old attractions had been updated and revamped such as “Disaster! A Major Motion Picture Ride starring You” which was formerly “Earthquake – The Big One!” Earthquake closed in 2007, however, several of the main elements of the ride are the same incorporating a new theme and some additional special effects. Some attractions were entirely replaced such as the old “Back to the Future” which in March of 2007 was replaced with “The Simpsons Ride” and “Kongfrontation,” which closed in 2002 to be replaced by “Revenge of the Mummy” which according to my son is a pretty “awesome” indoor rollercoaster (I don’t do roller coasters). The “Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera” is now “Jimmy Neutron’s Nicktoon Blast” which is a wild simulator ride through the worlds of everyone’s favorite Nicktoon characters (it was great fun though I had to close my eyes a few times). “Alfred Hitchcock: The Art of Making Movies,” closed in 2003 to make way for “Shrek 4-D” which is a fantastic adventure with all the special effects you come to expect from 3-D (or in this case 4-D) that takes off from where the popular movie ended.
Men in Black: Alien Attack was brand new in 2000. You enter this ride under the pretense that you are at the World Expo about to view a presentation called “The Universe and You,” but you end up being an MIB trainee. This ride is similar to the arcade-style Buzz Lightyear in Magic Kingdom as you travel in vehicles shooting up aliens with your laser gun trying to score as many points as possible – fun!
Some outdated sets such as the Bates Mansion and Swamp Thing were gone but the kiddie area called Woody Woodpecer’s Kidzone had expanded to include the Nuthouse Coaster and the Curious George interactive playground.
Sadly, the Boneyard had disappeared. I remember how much I enjoyed viewing the discarded props from some of my all time favorite films. This has been removed to make way for the entrance to the coming attraction, “Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit.” Out with the old and in with the new as they say!
We had a great day and loved the new attractions. We will no doubt return very soon!

Florida summer 2009

Authors WebsiteThe excitement of going to Florida for the summer holidays in 2009.
We were lucky to be able to take our children to Florida for the 6 weeks holidays. While we were there we wanted the children to try different experiences and thought I would share them with you all…..but that would take far too long and decided to focus on the “NEW Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit ”
Our children are 11yrs, 12 yrs, 14 yrs, 16 yrs, 18 yrs old so we wanted to do things that they would all enjoy, one of the things that they all wanted to do was to go on the “new” ride at Universal Studios, “Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit” but was not sure when it was due to open has Universal Studio’s was only advertising “due to open summer 2009” after arriving at the park on several occasions they see that the ride as people queuing, the park are now doing “test Rides” and decide to join the queue, they waited for two and a half hours and was finally sitting in the seat of the new ride.
Like most roller coaster rides the children felt it was over far too quickly, but loved the idea of been able to select and play your own choice of music of which you have to decide on before the roller coaster starts to move. Once the ride is in motion, you start to climb upward to the height of around 17 Stories over Universal Studio’s, they children say the view is fantastic for the spit second that you see it and then the speed of the roller coaster starts, you have no chances of really hearing the song that you have selected due to the speed and the twists and turns of the roller coaster, your tummy flipping over and over, your head flipping side to side and the feeling of nothing really holding you in place. The drops and turns of the roller coaster at speeds that is unbelievable, when the ride is finished the children got off the ride still feeling the rush of excitement of wanting to go on it again and again, the adult that went on with them could not say the same he reckons it’s far too scary for a second go………

Catastrophe Canyon
Posted on August 8th, 2009 No commentsWritten by: Alan Thomond
Authors WebsiteThe ground beneath the tram was now shaking violently and the carriage in which we were riding lurched from side to side. Up on the steep canyon hillside the fuel truck was struggling to maintain its position and the electricity cables swayed viciously above.
There was no respite as the earthquake worsened, and now the tanker was leaking fuel. Soon the power lines could resist no longer and came crashing to the ground sending sparks dancing in all directions. Rivers of gasoline were ignited and within seconds the truck exploded in a huge fire ball.
The rain had been relentless and without any further warning a flash flood hurtled down the canyon walls towards us. The foaming wall of water threatens our very existence but mercifully stops just short of our tram. As the cascade subsides we can see that the fires have been extinguished and the ground is no longer shaking…but it had been a close call.
This was Catastrophe Canyon, the highlight of Hollywood Studios Back Lot Tour.
The excitement begins after exiting the Harbour Attack special effects movie shoot and as you board the tram there is no inkling of the terror you are about to face.
In fact, at this time, your knowledgeable guide is happy to point out photo opportunities for the iconic Earful Tower and bombard you with a plethora of mesmerising statistics about its height and weight.
Even moving on through the Boneyard which is home to a number of props from some major film successes such as Star Wars, Herbie the Love Bug and Pirates of the Caribbean, there was still no indication of what dangers lay ahead.
Then we slowly turned the corner and entered through the narrow walls of the canyon ….you know what happened next.
The fascinating thing, after the flash flood subsides, is to watch the whole set reset itself ready for the next tram load of unsuspecting guests.
Our ride continues around the back of Catastrophe Canyon where the huge tanks and water canon are housed. Another chance for our guide to shower us (forgive the pun) with more mind blowing facts and figures. But it was interesting to understand how the special effects were performed.
Towards the end of the ride the tram passes an old Dakota aircraft affectionately known as ‘The Mouse’. This, we are informed, was the original plane that Walt Disney flew in when looking for the ideal location in Florida to build his theme park dream.
We are returned to our start point and guide bids us a cheery farewell.
It had certainly been an eventful trip.
