Every time we visit Florida we have lunch or dinner at the Gaylord Palms Hotel. We usually eat in the Villa Flora, a mediterranean style restaurant with a different themed buffet each day. We’ve had Greek, Spanish, French, Italian and there’s a wide variety to suit all tastes. It’s an opportunity to try all sorts of things you might not otherwise.

There’s usually no need to book, we’ve never had to wait very long for a table. There’s a huge atrium inside the hotel and at the restaurant you feel as if you are sitting outside, it’s styled on the old town of St Augustine. The waiters serve drinks and you help yourself to the buffet, it’s difficult to choose and you want to try everything; our particular favourite is the lobster bisque, then there are salads, chicken, fish, steaks, vegetables, pizzas - you need to be hungry when you get there and you really have to leave room for dessert!

It’s all reasonably priced too so it doesn’t break the bank to take the whole family. It’s a little bit more expensive in the evenings and Sunday lunchtimes. After dinner you can take a walk round the Atrium, there are waterfalls and tropical plants, streams with live alligators and turtles in them and a part of it is called the Everglades which the kids loved.

There’s another restaurant here called the Old Hickory Steakhouse which we have yet to try. On the other side is ‘Old Key West’ with a restaurant on a sailing ship set in a lagoon. There are some nice shops for gifts, clothes and jewellery and several bars to relax with a drink before dinner. On occasions there has been a live show in the entertainment area in the centre and we have also seen a wedding taking place there which is a lovely setting. In the winter there is an ice skating arena which always seems a little incongrous in Florida but everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

After lunch it’s best to plan to do nothing more than lie around the pool. We like to visit Gaylord for lunch early in our holiday when we are up and about early. Our next visit hopefully will be Christmas Day!

We are hearing more and more from our guests staying at our villa of the value and the choice of great things to do at Downtown Disney. With No Entry charge you can choose just what you want to do and at the cost you want to pay.

The New Character Balloon Flight, next to Planet Hollywood was a big hit for our last guests. Being able to rise 400 feet above the crowds and see for miles around with the chance to get Photographs of the family in a very special and unique location.

The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique for their little girl proved to be her highlight of the visit. She was “Made Up” just like a Princess, having the full Princess Treatment in the Salon. A hairpiece, shimmering make over, finger nails done and a choice of her favourite Princess’s Dress (Cinderella). It was a little pricey but for a “one off” day they were delighted with the result and seeing their Little Princess’s face as she posed for her photographs, even strangers were taking pictures. They recommend booking early in your holiday to avoid any disappointment as there are only 10 Chairs in th Boutique.

They enjoyed the Irish Fish & Chip Shop on one visit but thought the T Rex Cafe was fabulous for all of them. The Table & Chairs have Dinosaur Legs, the massive Dinosaurs move and roar  to make it special place to have a meal. They said to make sure to take your camera as the special effects and the Coral Reef Bar are spectacular.

They intend to return during their next visit to fit in the things they couldn’t this time around.

It is good to get a “Feed Back” from our guests and hopefully it will give 1st. Time visitors a reason to take time away from the Parks.
