GOLF IN FLORIDA

For many of our guests, one of the reasons is the availability of so many golf courses. What makes is so good is the weather, the quality of the courses, the organisation and the fact they have strict rules on slow play, enabling players to make the most of their day. The use of a golf buggy is mandatory to help keep the game moving and avoid hold ups. There are water coolers on all the tees, an absolute must in the heat, and there are people who serve snacks and drinks on the course.
One of the courses I play regularly is Remington at St Cloud, set amongst a housing development, it is a well laid out course with plenty of challenge for the better golfers (not me!) It has a particularly good package which includes a breakfast sandwich, a hot dog half way round, and a substantial snack at the end. The staff are friendly and obliging and there is a nice clubhouse with a pro shop, bar and dining area. The course is located about 4 miles outside Old Kissimmee Town, just off the 192.
Another good course is Kissimmee Oaks which is on the 17/92 near Poiciana. Again set amongst a housing complex it is a picturesque course and you may get the odd sighting of a Gator in one of the many lakes and ponds.
I haven’t yet played at Reunion which is off Ronald Reagan Parkway, a relatively new course but with the character of a more established golf course. It is a beautifully set out course of championship standard with beautiful fairways and greens and has been the venue for many high profile Ladies tournaments, it can only get better with age. It can be a bit pricey depending on the time of year, golf tends to be more expensive in Florida in the winter due to the influx of Snowbirds.

Away from the Parks but still lots to do

We thought we would mention a few fun things to do away from the usual Parks & amusement areas.
There’s almost always something good going on in Kissimmee. The Silver Spurs Rodeo host to a variety of concerts, festivals and events all year long, offering fun, excitement, and entertainment for every member of the family. We have seen Hulk Hogan in person at one of the promotions, he is a Fishing fanatic and an expert angler. He signed our autograph book and we had pictures taken along side him, he is MASSIVE.
The Rodeo Show and Funfair weekends are great family entertainment with live music, lots of free give aways and live demonstrations. It’s a real crowd pleaser, offering a taste of the Wild West and you can watch bronco bucking, barrel racing, steer wrestling, team roping, and even those funny little rodeo clowns. It is worth getting the Events Calendar, where you’ll find what’s happening all year round..
Also, the three downtown areas, Kissimmee, St. Cloud, and Celebration, host numerous uniquely-themed special events throughout the year. You can also head over to Lake Toho in St. Cloud for a day of free family fun revolving around a beach, a playground, and several lakefront fishing spots including a tranquil fishing pier with a gazebo. Take one day of your holiday to slow down the pace and just see what you can do for free.
It will certainly make a change!!!!!
Happy Holidays

Florida

Authors WebsiteAs a Disney villa owner who has likened Kissimmee to be my second home, I like to venture further afield than the local tourist area when I come out to Florida as much as I do. Not that I don’t visit the parks as every year there is always something new to see and also to indulge my excuse to feel like a kid again.
We very often drive to St Cloud which is an easy run on the 192 and you get to experience a much laid back way of life. During our last visit we came across a free local paper that I think is worth its weight in gold. It’s called “Orange Peel Gazette” and it advertises itself as “The hottest little paper in town”.
It has a mind field of information in it plus articles, adverts and quiz’s. Local handy men are cheaper to hire and as a property owner, invaluable for finding local business that are just a phone call away and who actually turn up to give you a quote.
We were looking through and found this brilliant Seafood restaurant, called “One Eyed Grouper”.
It’s on Canoe Creek Road, behind Winn-Dixie Plaza and is open 7 days a week. You can get, oysters, grouper, clams, crab, and even gator bites, they also do burghers and ribs for the kids if they do not want to be adventuress enough to tackle the gator bites. (I love them)
They also do an “All you can eat” Fish and fries at $9.95 before 6pm. Mondays special is dinner for two at only $11.99. Very good value for money and you will definitely need a siesta around the pool after trying the all you can eat.
This little paper gives you everything from local barbers, locksmiths and where to get your BBQ apron embroidered.
One I liked the best was an article about what to do if you are ice fishing and your car breaks through the ice in water more than fifty feet deep. “Remember to exhale slowly as you descend to avoid bursting your lungs. Also to watch out for “Walleye” and if possible, note their approximate depth and what they are feeding on”!!
Last thing you would be able to do when your freezing cold, wet, and fighting for breath is to watch for Walleye!
Pick a paper up the next time you drive through St Cloud, you will be fascinated by it.
