Vacation rental homes and villas in the Disney area of Orlando Florida, the Florida Keys and along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts are grouped in small developments of similar properties, each of these developments of 'single family homes' as the Americans call them are individual communities. Many of these communities are located in the Kissimmee area to the East of Disney, but over the last few years many new developments of vacation rental home communities have sprung up along the US Highway 27 which is to the West of the Disney theme parks. Both areas are within easy reach of the main Disney and Universal theme parks and the many other tourist attractions, shopping malls and restaurants of Central Florida, as are the villas located along the 192 which is South of the Disney theme Parks.
Some of the vacation home communities are 'gated' which simply means that there is either an automatic gate which needs a security code number to open it or it has a manned guard hut at the entrance. Other developments are more open plan and you just drive in as you would any new housing development in the UK.
If a community is described as a 'Resort' this will usually mean that there are a number of communal facilities for use by guests staying in a vacation rental villa at that location, these facilities could be anything from a large communal swimming pool to Tennis courts and children's play area. There is quite often a club house which may incorporate a bar and/or restaurant, these are all within walking distance of the vacation home.
